April 26th, 2008 - Dan's Training Bees arrive

Loading the car with all the relevant equipment it was sure to be an afternoon of "boys & their toys".

Fired up with enthusiasm for the afternoons events Dan quickly got his skates on and even had time to mow the lawn surrounding the house before he left!

On arriving at the bee school, he was a disappointed to hear that there'd only be enough time to set up 4 training hives - given that there are 12 students, it was deemed that the 4 ladies at the school would get priority.

However, 1 of the ladies didn't bring her "training hive", so as Dan had his training hive, he was next on the list!

So, with that decided, it was off to the hives and on with the beekeeping outfits.

With everyone suited and booted, it was time to get first hand experience of playing with bees - unfortunately, it turned out to be more of a "look and learn" as opposed to "hands on".

With that said, it is encouraging to watch a seasoned bee keeper doing everything that Dan had read in his book. Plus, it's given him even more confidence to get stuck in.

All we need now is the weather to remain warm and dry and we'll soon be getting our "real" bees for the garden - which can't come soon enough as the fruit trees are in full blossom!
