May 9th, 2008 - Irrigation System Despite the volume of rain we've had ths Spring, Dan was keen to implement the new irrigation system.
Given the number of hours we have spent previously in watering, we know it will prove to be an absolute godsend.
So Dan, eager to have the time and computer up and running, spent the day laying hoses and connectors.
The watering is split into 3 areas - the fruit cage, the veggie patch and the polytunnel.
In the fruit cage, there is a combination of a "micro-drip" system which either sprays a fine mist around the base of the plant or simply drips depending upon the attachment used; and the other half of the combination is a seep hose.
In the polytunnel, there is just the micro-drip system and on the veggie patch, it's a combination of seep hoses and "standard" sprinklers.
Although it sounds convoluted and "Heath Robinson", each plant has a different watering requirement (tomatoes hate to be watered from above and it's not feasible to "drip water" each carrot seedling)
Still, as Dan is basically a nerd, figuring this kind of thing out, plus programming it into a special irrgation computer is right up his street!!! View The Blog Read All Veggie Patch Stories |
