31st May, 2008 - Bee School

Now that we've got our "real" bees in the garden, Dan was looking forward to going to bee school to see how the "training" bees were doing.

Ever since we got the bees at the beginning of the week, Dan has been itching to open up the hive and see what's going on. However, keeping bees is not for the impatient as they take time to adjust, settle down after being moved and basically don't like being disturbed.

So with bee school beckoning, Dan packed up his smoker and buzz lightyear outfit and tottled off.

Unfortunately the man who runs the bee school was behind with his routine maintenance of his own hives due to all the recent rain.

Consequently, the lesson consisted of watching the instructor and his helper splitting their hives which, to be honest, was incredibly boring to watch especially with 20 people all crowded around a small hive and the fact that this is now the 3rd lesson on the trot where we've done this.

Ho-hum.

Still, in a few more days, it'll be time for Dan to check on our "real" bees...weather permitting!
