4th June, 2008 - A Bee In My Bonnet With much anticipation, today was the day when Dan was going to inspect the hive for the first time since he'd picked up the bees.
Wanting to mark this event in digital history, Dan instructed our teenage daughter to record his actions for all to see.
Despite having read his book several times, bored everyone stupid on the subject and had a few goes at bee school this was the first time that Dan was going to do it for himself.
So, with smoker lit, suit on and camera rolling Dan proceeded to do his first hive inspection.
As Dan lifted the frames out, looking for the queen, eggs, signs of illness and so on, the bees buzzed all around.
Although Victoria was a safe distance away, with the camcorder on full zoom, some of the bees flew in her direction.
Up until this point, Victoria had been doing a wonderful running commentary and as you'll hear on the soon-to-be-uploaded video, it was only when a bee flew into her hair did things go wrong!
Fortunately, Victoria wasn't stung but we don't think she'll want to film the bees again.
And in case you were wondering, Dan couldn't find the queen but he saw eggs which means that she must have been in there somewhere. View The Blog Read All Bee Stories |
