14th August, 2008 - Time For Action Having dropped Tracey & Tina off at the airport, Dan & Ciaran returned home to find 2 more dead turkeys.
With 4 turkeys dead in less than a week, something had to be done.
As before, these latest casualties showed no signs of foul play or disease and so Dan thought that they were either starving to death (despite all the lush vegetation in the enclosure), or were not getting the right combination of minerals, vitamins etc from their generic pellet food, or were poisoning themselves by eating dangerous vegetation.
So, in an attempt to at least do something, Dan & Ciaran went off to the animal feed shop and bought individual sacks of corn, barley and wheat.
The turkeys were then locked back in their cage, as opposed to having free reign of the enclosure, and given the grained food.
Just for good measure, the chickens received the same treatment.
Whether this is the solution or not remains to be seen, but Dan felt that at least he was trying something, rather than just stand by and watch the turkeys keel over. View The Blog Read All Turkey Stories |
