3rd September, 2008 - Feeling Pig Sick One cannot truly appreciate the saying "squealing like a pig" until you've actually heard the noise first hand!
The noise is without doubt, truly sickening and it's exactly what we heard around 11pm!
Knowing that the pigs would not be hungry at that time of night and should be tucked up in their bungalow, we knew something was not quite right.
Whilst taking the dogs out for the nighttime run around the garden, Dan went to investigate the cause of the squealing.
10 minutes later, Dan came back to the house full of concern.
Dick was standing on just 3 legs and screaming like a banshee - the noise was incredible and extremely obvious that he was in excruiating pain.
As close to midnight and no light, there was very little we could do.
Countless worrying conversations took place about "what to do for the best"
It was an agonising time and only now can we really appreciate why some farmers sit up all night with sick animals.
We finally fell asleep knowing we had made the right decision - to call a vet first thing in the morning, but should it not prove cost effective, then it would be an early curtain call for Dick. View The Blog Read All Pig Stories |
