26th September, 2008 - From Fireman To Vet With Dan away on a fireman's training course, it was up to Tracey to do the rounds of animal feeding.
It was all going so well, until Tracey arrived at the bird pound.
It may be nature's way of sorting the men from the boys and probably not much different from playground bullying, but it's a horrible scene to witness especially on an empty stomach!
With 9 turkeys in one enclosure, clearly 8 of them decided that they outranked the smallest one and had decided to peck it to pieces.
For a townie, who is quite capable of picking up a dead turkey (albeit with gloves on & because they don't wriggle and flap about!) Tracey is unable to sort out the "bloody mess" of an injured bird - especially when they look at you with their one good eye!
So, she decided to feed and water them and leave them alone until Dan got home.
When Dan returned home after 8 hours of abseiling down buildings and simulating rescue scenes, he quickly ditched his fireman duties for vetinery ones.
Dan decided that a bit of T.L.C in the "A & E" department should do the trick and picked up the injured bird by it's foot and carried it 20 feet away to a seperate enclosure to get some rest - hopefully not it's final resting place! View The Blog Read All Turkey Stories |
